1. Who we are

Remote TV Control Universal ("the app", "we", "us") is a mobile application for Apple devices that lets you control compatible network-enabled televisions over your local Wi-Fi network. This policy covers the app and this website.

For the purposes of the UK GDPR and the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the data controller is the publisher of the app, contactable at privacy@remotetvcontroluniversal.com.

Placeholder to complete before publishing: insert your registered trading name, company number if applicable, and postal address. App Store review and data-protection law both expect a identifiable publisher and a working contact address.

2. The short version

  • You do not need an account, and we do not ask for your name, address or phone number.
  • The commands you send to your television travel directly from your device to your TV on your own network. They do not pass through our servers.
  • We collect a limited amount of technical and diagnostic information so the app keeps working and so we can fix crashes.
  • If you use the free, ad-supported version, our advertising partner may process identifiers to serve adverts — and iOS asks your permission before any tracking takes place.
  • You can ask us to delete what we hold at any time.

3. Information we collect

CategoryExamplesWhy we process it
Device and app information Device model, iOS version, app version, language and region settings To make the app work correctly on your device and to diagnose problems by model
Local device information The names, models and local network addresses of televisions you connect to To discover your TV, to reconnect to it automatically and to remember it between sessions. Stored on your device.
Diagnostics and crash reports Crash logs, error messages, performance traces To identify and fix bugs and stability problems
Usage data Aggregated, non-identifying counts such as which screens are opened and which features are used To understand which parts of the app deserve investment
Purchase information Subscription status and the receipt validation result supplied by Apple To unlock Premium features and to provide support on billing questions
Advertising identifiers Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), where you have given permission To display advertising in the free version. Only processed if you allow tracking when iOS asks.
Support correspondence Your email address and the content of messages you send us To answer your question and keep a record of the issue

4. What we never collect

  • Content you watch. We do not record which channels, programmes or streaming titles you view.
  • Keystrokes sent to your TV. Text you type into the app's keyboard is passed to your television and is not transmitted to us or stored by us.
  • Precise location. The app does not request GPS access.
  • Contacts, photos, microphone or camera. None of these are needed and none are requested.
  • Payment card details. All payments are handled by Apple; we never see your card information.

5. How we use your information

  • To provide the app's core function: finding, pairing with and controlling your television.
  • To maintain and improve stability, speed and device compatibility.
  • To provide and validate Premium subscriptions.
  • To display advertising in the free version, and to remove it in the paid version.
  • To respond to your support requests.
  • To comply with legal obligations and to detect misuse or fraud.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to build profiles for sale to third parties.

6. Legal bases for processing (UK & EU users)

  • Performance of a contract — providing the app and any subscription you buy.
  • Legitimate interests — keeping the app secure and stable, and understanding aggregate usage.
  • Consent — personalised advertising and any tracking permitted through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. You may withdraw consent at any time in iOS Settings.
  • Legal obligation — retaining records we are required to keep, such as tax records relating to purchases.

7. Advertising and analytics

The free version of the app is supported by advertising. Adverts may be served through third-party advertising networks, which act as independent controllers or as joint controllers for the data they process. Depending on the permission you give, adverts may be personalised or non-personalised.

Where iOS requires it, you will see Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, the app will not access your advertising identifier and you will see non-personalised adverts instead. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Placeholder to complete before publishing: list the exact third-party SDKs you ship — for example Google AdMob, Apple App Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics or RevenueCat — and link to each provider's own privacy policy. Your App Store privacy labels must match this list.

8. When we share information

We share information only in these circumstances:

  • Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract, such as crash reporting, analytics, subscription management and email support tools.
  • Apple, which handles app distribution, in-app purchases and receipt validation under its own privacy policy.
  • Advertising partners, where you have consented to personalised advertising.
  • Legal requirements — where disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, enforce our Terms of Use, or protect the rights and safety of users.
  • Business transfer — if the app is sold or transferred, information may move with it, subject to this policy.

9. International transfers

Our service providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Where information leaves the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. How long we keep information

  • TV settings and saved devices: stored on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.
  • Crash and diagnostic data: typically up to 12 months.
  • Aggregated usage statistics: retained in non-identifying form, with no fixed limit.
  • Support emails: up to 24 months after the request is closed.
  • Purchase records: for as long as required by tax and accounting law.

11. Security

We use encryption in transit for any communication with our own services, restrict internal access to diagnostic data, and keep third-party dependencies updated. Control commands stay on your local network. No system is perfectly secure, however: keep your device software up to date and use a password-protected Wi-Fi network, since anyone on your network could otherwise reach your television.

12. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate information corrected;
  • have your information deleted;
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • receive your information in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent to advertising and tracking at any time;
  • opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, if you are a California resident; and
  • lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@remotetvcontroluniversal.com. We will reply within one month. Because we do not hold accounts, we may need details such as your device model and the approximate date of your last support contact to locate any records.

You can also erase everything the app has stored locally by deleting the app from your device.

13. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Local network access

iOS asks for your permission before the app may access devices on your local network. This permission is essential: without it the app cannot discover or reach your television. We use it only to find compatible devices and send control commands to the TV you choose. We do not scan for, catalogue or report other devices on your network to ourselves or anyone else, and you can revoke the permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app develops or the law changes. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects your rights, we will highlight it in the app or on this website before it takes effect.
